Most species of spiders that are found in homes are harmless to humans. They destroy many injurious household insects and are therefore beneficial. Spiders have the characteristic habit of spinning webs to capture their pray. Also they move from one place to anther by spinning webs of ne silk. Most housewives dread these webs as they give an unkempt look to the house, otherwise these creatures are quite hamless. The only dangerous species and one to watch out for is the black widow spider. The female of this species is about 1.2 to 1.3 cm long and shiny black. The front and back part of the body are globular the leg are long and slender. It usually has a red, oange or brownish yellow mark, shaped like an hourglass.

Black widow spiders are not aggressive theually exy are shy bue will bite instinctively when touched or threatened. The female inflicts a seriously poisonous bite which can be fatal. Black widow spiders seldom appear in living quarters of homes but are often found in basements beneath lawn benches or porches, and in garages, tool sheds, old lumber piles, trash piles, sand boxes, and outdoor toilets.
